Welcome to my blog.
The latest, greatest Kyle initiative has been... well... initiated! KYLE ART RULES...MONDAYS DROOL! Mondays are a bore no more! Every week, I pledge to rock your monday mornings with a brand new kyleart piece of art. It could be a new painting, desktop wallpaper, tshirt designs, a video of me doing a jig.... who knows? As long as it could be loosely argued as visual art... that's what you're going to get.

Enter with me, into the romantic side of Kyle. Romantic-Kyle is the one that watches Amelie every morning over breakfast, adds a petunia to his smoothie, and would love to spend the rest of his life lounging around Paris (said Pair-Ee). He sings back to the birds and always skips (not class, but that way of walking that means you're no longer manly). But this week, Romantic-Kyle paints everyday... five new romps in the lovey-dovey.
about theTouch series: attempting to capture universal moments in time; moments of romantic physical connection with another person: the electricity sent up your arm as you hold hands for the first time, the way the world fades away yet gets more vibrant

Double-Oh Penguin is based on a character I made when I was 7 or 8. Obviously a secret agent, I think I was being "clever" about a penguin wearing a penguin suit, and had just gotten into James Bond.

This is Brush Finch of The Birdies. They are a Band made up of birds. They have gone by many names in the past... in the early nineties they were the Backstreet Birds... then later, during their lounge singing days they went by Birds of Pair-a-dice. Now, simply The Birdies.
These birds are based on a trip to the Central Park Zoo... Their aviary was filled with rockin' birds, crazy hairstyles galore.

Fabulous always sports sunglasses. Always. Whether he has been forced to wear them by his Paris Hilton-esque owner, or he chooses to strut down the wire-cage in style... that's up to you.
Be as fabulous as Fabulous. You can quote me on that.

This is it! Week Four! The ultimate Kyle Week! Each day I will present a new painting based around an animal. Some of these animals you have seen me paint before, and some are new... but any of these animals could get launched to fame-dom... I am talking lunchboxes, after-school tv shows, bed sheets, movies, mountain-sized replicas.
Get yours while the gettin's good.
Rock on, blog readers.

Another big part of Rock n' Roll are the Rock Concerts and the Rock Venues.
I went to a show last weekend (Styx and Boston, for those who are keeping track) at a venue called Red Rocks in Morrison, CO... and it was freaking awesome. It's a beautiful amphitheater on a hill with large red rocks all around with the city of Denver on the horizon. You can see it in the U2 video for "Bloody Sunday".
This painting is inspired by my memories that night. Such an amazing time.

So, apparently when coming up with a week based on a single pun, things can get "Hard to Handle". And when, sleep-deprived, the only Rockstar pun I could come up with was "The Black Coals" like the black crowes... well, I decided to take it in a slightly different angle. Yes, the painting is inspired by them, and yes I listened to their music while I was painting, and yes they really do rock.
But I wanted the crow to represent all of rock. Like the phoenix rising out of a pile of coal, the crow gives all classic rockers the chance to come back and tour. (Well that and the fact that video games like Rockband and Guitar Hero have really expanded the fan base).

Stonehenge meets STP

"Stonehenge Temple Pilots"12" x 12" x 1.5", oil on canvas, all sides are painted, signed on back
When I was in high school, many of my friends would say they were STP fans. (I didn't know what STP stood for... could my friends really be such big fans of the nascar fuel additive?) Well, after playing along for a few brutal months, I finally gave in and asked one of my more forgiving fellows what it meant. Stone Temple Pilots. I have been rocking out to them ever since.
They go by STP as much as their full name, and (according to wikipedia) were originally going to be named Stereo Temple Pirates, needed to change it, but loved the initials.
So in this painting, I wanted to showcase the STP... with side designs of "Purple" and the star from "Number 4"

When I was growing up, I loved this band. I remember my sister and I harmonizing to the chorus of Paradise City (though I usually messed up my part the first time 'round).
This combines the awesomeness of Guns N' Roses with the beauty of the Rose Quartz.

A fantastic band. And a fantastic element.
The lead rock star in the painting features an alchemical symbol for lead (inclusion inspired by the mystical symbols that each member of the band has as a logo)... and if you flip the alchemical symbol, you can see an L and a Z... Led Zeppelin
Music has been a huge influence in my life. Especially music that rocks. So this week, I tribute some really great bands - Kyle Style. Punning their names with types of rocks, and then creating a visual inspired by their music.
I present to you week three, the RockStars series.
The RockStars series came about as an idea of a reinvention of the 80s fad pet rock. Wouldn't it be cool to buy star shaped rocks dedicated to different bands? Well, since i have no idea how to cut star-shaped rocks and sell them in kmarts everywhere... I have decided to incorporate them into some fine art. BUT IF SOMEONE WANTS TO GO INTO BUSINESS WITH THIS... feel free to give me a call!

"Monkey Meets Flying Banana"12" x 12" x 1.5", oil on canvas, painted on all sides, signed on back
SOLD
location: New York
This painting is based on the very first sketch I made of a flying banana. Trying to capture the first time a monkey would ever come across such a thing. I couldn't imagine what might be going through his head.
and this signals the END OF WEEK ONE! no more flying bananas for awhile - some of you may be relieved, some sad. For those of you who have stuck by this, thank you so much. It has been so fun... and it is all just beginning. Next week is a new series of five paintings. So if flying bananas suit your fancy, make your way over to ebay and bid on your favorite.
Would love to hear which was your favorite banana painting, and why!
Enjoy your American Independence day -- and your weekend!

The other day I went to the Murakami exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum of Art (by the way, if you live in New York, you have to go!) It was amazing. The things this guy has accomplished are inspirational.
So this is my little ode to him and his work.
His version had a mickey mouse-esque mascot of himself on top. I put my dreams and aspirations.
